Yes, it’s true. In 2023, ticket prices did go up.

It wasn’t an easy decision to increase the entry price but here’s some more information to shed some light on why this had to be done:

  • The Maleny Wood Expo has not increased its ticket price since 2015. While the world around us changed, we decided to hold on as long as we could.
  • Barung Landcare, the organisation that delivers the Maleny Wood Expo (which is a local environmental not-for-profit Landcare group based in Maleny), has been absorbing the cost increases to stage the event for a long time.
  • The Maleny Wood Expo has not been held since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions and in those 4 years we (and everyone else) have seen very significant cost increases due to high Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases and the impacts of COVID-19.
  • Some costs have more than doubled and every supplier and contractor we use to stage the event have increased their prices substantially. Supplier price increases range from 40% to 150%.

In 2023, our choices were to:

  • Run the event at a loss, which of course we can’t do.
  • Cancel an event that is much loved and means a lot to the woodworking community and the locals and is a source of income and work for many exhibitors, performers, local businesses and suppliers. Plus it brings many tourists to the area which benefits local business owners across the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
  • Or as we have done, implement an entry price increase.

It is a tough environment for all businesses and implementing a price increase for the first time since 2015 was a necessary step.

Tickets will remain the same price in 2024 as 2023.
